After a series of serious fires at the Novelis plant, a major supplier of aluminum sheets for automakers, the production of some Ford models was significantly affected. However, the situation is gradually stabilizing: production of the Ford Super Duty flagship heavy-duty trucks has started to increase rapidly. According to recent data, in November of this year, 23,676 vehicles of this family have already been produced, showing a production growth of a remarkable 4.5%.
On the other hand, a completely different scenario is observed with another popular Ford model – the F-150 pickup. Its production has significantly decreased, dropping by an impressive 30% and reaching only 21,069 vehicles produced. The reason for such a sharp decline is clear: a lack of high-quality aluminum needed for body assembly and construction elements, caused by issues at the Novelis production plant.
Ford officially acknowledges the difficulties caused by the material shortage but claims that the situation will begin to improve immediately after the full restoration of Novelis’ plant operations. Despite the corporation’s optimism, analysts warn that aluminum supplies will remain limited in the first months of the coming year, temporarily constraining the company’s ability to increase production volumes of all models to previous levels.
