A court in Bangladesh has sentenced former prime minister Sheikh Hasina to death for crimes against humanity, Reuters reported on November 17th. She was found guilty of using radical methods to suppress student protests in 2024, resulting in up to 1.4 thousand deaths and many injuries, according to the UN. The trial lasted several months. Hasina did not attend the court hearings — in August of last year, she left the country after resigning. The prosecution claims that the prime minister personally ordered the use of ‘harsh’ force to suppress protest actions. Defense, represented by state attorneys, argued the accusations were unfounded and requested acquittal.
