Four countries – Spain, Ireland, Netherlands, and Slovenia – have decided not to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest ‘Eurovision 2026′ following the decision to allow an Israeli representative to compete. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organizes the competition, announced this on December 4. Broadcasters from these countries informed the union of the boycott of the upcoming 70th anniversary Eurovision.
According to the EBU, the national broadcasters’ decision is directly related to the General Assembly vote, which previously supported the Israeli broadcaster’s participation in the 2026 contest. ‘Spain, Ireland, Netherlands, and Slovenia have notified the European Broadcasting Union of their intention not to participate in the 2026 contest following the General Assembly’s decision to allow the participation of the Israeli representative,’ the union’s press service said.
The EBU clarified that they have already received official letters from the public broadcasters of the four countries. The union has recorded their refusal and included this information in the preparation work for the competition. However, the organization emphasized that dialogue with national broadcasters continues as usual, and there have been no formal procedures to suspend their membership initiated.
