Fresh Russian Island Road Markings Destroyed by Drivers

New asphalt and road markings were laid at Shigino – Podnozhye on Russian Island. However, overnight, drivers simply smeared the markings on the road with their wheels. City residents joke that it looks like lime drawings. The road maintenance department rushed to explain that the work of the road workers was ruined by one reckless driver who crushed the cones and spoiled about half a kilometer of new road markings. It’s worth noting that residents had been waiting for asphalt on the road to Podnozhye for many years. This year, it was laid on two sections totaling about 2500 meters. There’s a small dirt section of about one and a half kilometers remaining, which is promised to be eliminated next year. Recently, road markings were applied to the new asphalt. Cones were placed along the entire stretch to prevent drivers from driving over the fresh markings. However, something went wrong. Videos appeared on social media in the evening showing crushed cones and paint smeared on the asphalt. The person filming even drove over the remnants of the markings several times. Today, the road maintenance department published photos of the aftermath, indicating that it will not only have to reapply the markings but also clean the new asphalt. The road maintenance department reported that the culprit was a driver of a Toyota Probox, who drove over the newly applied road markings and crushed most of the signal cones. A police report has been filed, and a photo of the offending vehicle has been released. According to reports, the driver has been detained, but his motives are still unknown. Perhaps he didn’t like the solid lines being drawn and now overtaking is not allowed on the island. The road maintenance specialists will now have to undertake a large amount of work to restore the damaged markings, the department stated, urging drivers to handle municipal property and the work of municipal services with care. The center noted that cold plastic is used by the contractor for the works on this stretch. However, each material requires drying time. In this case, the driver did not allow the markings to dry, stretching the material practically along the entire road.
