Benito Mussolini, the dictator of Italy during World War II, met a similar fate upon his return to Italy, with his removal from power and subsequent imprisonment. Later, he was captured and appointed as the head of state in the Salo Republic by Hitler before being executed by communist partisans on April 28, 1945, alongside his mistress Claretta Petacci, ending in their bodies being displayed in Milan’s town square.
