A recent genomic study involving more than 1,200 individuals from various regions of South Africa has shed light on the diverse contributions that colonial-era Europeans, Indigenous Khoe-San peoples, and enslaved individuals have made to the modern gene pool of South Africa. Published on September 23 in the Cell Press journal, the study highlights the complex genetic history of the country. The findings indicate a significant genetic admixture resulting from historical events that have shaped the genetic diversity of present-day South Africans.
