Germany announced on Wednesday (19) a €1 billion (approximately US$1.15 billion) investment in the Tropical Forests Forever Fund (TFFF), a Brazilian initiative that promotes forest conservation in developing countries. The announcement was made by Environment Minister Marina Silva during a press conference in Belém. President Lula and his wife Janja, as well as Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, also attended the conference. With this contribution, the fund now has a total of US$6.7 billion from five international sponsors, including Norway (US$3 billion), France (€500 million), Brazil (US$1 billion), and Indonesia (US$1 billion). The TFFF operates as an innovative financial mechanism: the invested funds generate economic returns for both investors and countries preserving their forests, creating a sustainable cycle that combines profit and environmental protection.
