Germany Confirms ‘Considerable’ Investment in TFFF

Germany confirmed on Friday (7) that they intend to invest a ‘considerable amount’ in the Tropical Forests for Forever Fund (TFFF) proposed by Brazil. While the exact value has not been disclosed, since Thursday (6) there has been anticipation for Germany to join the group of nations contributing to the project, seen as one of Brazil’s main proposals for COP30.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Friday afternoon. After the meeting, Merz stated that ‘Germany is willing to contribute to this initiative [the TFFF]. And we will contribute a considerable amount of money.’
‘We need to make the final decisions in Germany. I am in very close contact with my Finance Minister, and on Wednesday, we agreed at the German cabinet that we will do this, that we will support this initiative, and that Germany will contribute significantly,’ added the chancellor, without specifying the exact amount.
So far, the Fund has received investments from Brazil, Norway, France, and Portugal.
