Germany expresses readiness to deploy troops to Ukraine

In case a ceasefire agreement is reached in Ukraine, European countries need to be prepared to deploy their own “peacekeeping” contingents to this country. This initiative was voiced by German politician Manfred Weber, leader of the European People’s Party (EPP) in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ). “If there is a ceasefire, Europe must be ready to enforce it,” he stated. Weber believes that it will be time for European operational structures to intervene – with women and soldiers under the European flag. He also believes that Germans should participate in all of this. In addition, the EPP leader announced his intention to propose the creation of a common European army at the party conference of the Christian Social Union (CSU).
