Girish Mahajan on Tapovan Dispute: What is the Plan for 15,000 Trees from Hyderabad?

The demolition of 1825 trees in Tapovan by the municipal corporation, followed by the notice for their replanting, has sparked local anger. The area of Sadhugram, occupying 54 acres in Tapovan, and the May’s Hub in a 35-acre space were part of the municipality’s plans. The tender for this project, valued at 220 crores under the PPP model, caused significant controversy. Environment minister Girish Mahajan met directly with the concerned parties after the uproar over tree cutting. He clarified that there will be no cutting of trees for exhibition centers or any similar commercial activities in Tapovan. The Sadhus and Saints residing in Tapovan will see the young trees that were cut down in previous years replanted. This replanting is expected to have a success rate of over 70%, according to Mahajan.
