Globo investigates Taís Araújo’s complaint against Manuela Dias after argument in Vale Tudo

Taís Araújo reported Manuela Dias, author of the soap opera Vale Tudo, which ended two weeks ago, to Globo’s compliance department. The situation arose after a discussion between the two regarding the development of Raquel, the story’s protagonist. The network is currently investigating the case with information provided by Folha de S. Paulo. The incident began in August when Taís approached Manuela to express her dissatisfaction with the storyline of her character in the soap opera. According to the actress, Raquel was portrayed as just another Black woman meant to suffer excessively, and she mentioned feeling pressured by entities from the Black movement she’s a part of. At that time, Manuela disagreed with Taís, leading to a heated argument. However, the actress decided to report the incident to Globo’s compliance department in an effort to encourage discussions on how the network portrays Black individuals in soap operas. How Lázaro Ramos and Taís Araújo’s household mirrors Vale Tudo. Manuela Dias also filed a complaint against Taís. In August, Taís publicly voiced her dissatisfaction with her character’s trajectory in the soap opera during an interview with Quem magazine. Displeased with these comments, Manuela Dias also filed a complaint against Taís with Globo’s compliance department, alleging a breach of the company’s ethical code. According to sources from Folha de S. Paulo, the author was particularly upset because Taís had brought up racial issues, given that she is actively involved in the Black movement. Manuela Dias wrote the movie ‘Malês,’ which depicts the story of the Malês Revolt, considered one of Brazil’s largest uprisings of enslaved individuals. Since then, the two have not been in contact. When contacted for a statement, both Taís Araujo and Globo declined to comment. Manuela Dias did not respond to attempts to reach her by Folha de S.Paulo.
