Goa’s famous ‘Birch Bay Romeo Lane’ night club witnessed a horrifying fire incident on Saturday-Sunday night in the Baga area, resulting in the death of 25 people. Following an FIR against the club owners, four senior officials were arrested.
The Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, stated, ‘Based on preliminary investigations, a stampede on the dance floor of the night club occurred, where someone ignited firecrackers, leading to a massive blaze.’ Prior information indicated that the fire broke out due to a cylinder blast.
Providing assistance to the families of the deceased and the affected, the government announced financial support of five lakh rupees from the SDRF fund for the families of the deceased and 50,000 rupees for the injured. Additionally, arrangements will be made to transport the deceased to their homes. The CM mentioned that Romeo Lane will be closed down for further investigation.
The probe into the incident has commenced, with some managing to escape immediately while others were trapped, resulting in loss of lives. The investigation is ongoing, and a report is expected to be released within a week. Officials responsible for negligence will face suspension and disciplinary actions.
In a significant development, Chief Secretary Alok Kumar stated, ‘In connection with the fire incident, Chief General Manager Rajiv Modak, General Manager Vivek Singh, Bar Manager Rajveer Singhania, and Gate Manager Priyanshu Thakur have been arrested. Additionally, club owners Saurav Luther and Gaurav Luther are facing an FIR.’
