Guru-Student Alliance Rejects 6-Day School Week in Central Java

The Indonesian Teacher Union in Central Java (PGRI) rejects the proposal of implementing a six-day school week in the region, labeling it a ‘backward move.’ PGRI Chairman in Central Java, Muhdi, emphasized that there is currently no significant reason to make the change. The government previously switched from a six-day to a five-day school week for rational reasons related to family time. Muhdi pointed out that the responsibility of educating children should not solely fall on teachers but also on parents. He highlighted the importance of providing students with more time for family activities and personal skills development. According to Muhdi, a five-day school week allows families to maintain a balanced and harmonious life.
