Historical Debt: Caribbean and Africa Demand Reparations from Britain for Slavery

Caribbean countries and Africa are demanding reparations from Britain for historical slave trade. As reported by Reuters, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which unites 15 states in the Caribbean region, along with African Union countries, are among the initiators. The total number of affected individuals is estimated at over 12.5 million people who lived from the 15th to the 19th century. CARICOM’s plan includes official apologies, educational programs, debt relief, and financial compensation. The African Union is also developing its own reparations program.
