United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg said on the evening of August 31 that at least 11 UN staff members were detained that day in the Yemeni capital Sanaa and in the province of Hodeidah by Houthi militants. UN Secretary-General Guterres issued a statement on the same day strongly condemning the incident and calling for the Houthi militants to immediately and unconditionally release the detained individuals. The Houthi militants have not yet responded to these demands. The group had previously stated their intention to seek revenge for several key members who were killed in Israeli airstrikes.
