After the eruption of Ethiopia’s Hayli Gubbi volcano, ash clouds have made their way to India at speeds of 100-120km/h. These clouds, consisting of volcanic ash and sulphur dioxide, are not forecasted to have a major impact on the Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Delhi. Despite reaching these areas, the clouds are moving at an altitude of 15,000-45,000 feet. However, some flights have been affected by the ash clouds in the region. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has advised airlines to avoid ash-affected airspaces, modify flight plans, and promptly report any suspected ash encounters, such as engine problems or cabin smoke/odor.
