An unusual argument about how many eggs a chicken can lay ended in a shooting in Port St. Lucie, Florida. A man reportedly fired at three people he had been arguing with just minutes earlier. The incident took place around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday outside a local bar after closing time. Security footage showed the suspect, identified as 44-year-old Peter Riera, firing four shots with a Glock .45 pistol. Fortunately, none of the shots hit the victims.
Riera was arrested and claimed that the men were trying to deceive him, displaying signs of paranoia according to the authorities. Police revealed that the shooter had a chicken farm and the conversation had sparked from a debate on how many eggs chickens can lay. ‘For some reason, the discussion escalated,’ said a police sergeant in an interview with local TV channel. When the first shots rang out, one victim ran into the street for cover, while the other two took shelter.
All parties involved had been drinking alcohol, as confirmed by the police. During the investigation, two men at the scene were also arrested for resisting the police. Peter Riera remains in custody without bail and will face charges related to the incident.
