Icon of instrumental music, Hermeto Pascoal, dies at 89

With serenity and love, the post states, ‘We communicate that Hermeto Pascoal has passed on to the spiritual plane, surrounded by family and music companions.’ ‘At the exact moment of passing, his Group was on stage, as he would have wanted: making sound and music. As he always taught us, let’s not let sadness take over: let’s listen to the wind, birdsong, the glass of water, the waterfall, the universal music continues.’ Three times winner of the Latin Grammy, Pascoal proved the feasibility of making highly elaborate rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic music with pots, kettles, watering can, children’s toys, and even animals. Self-taught and intuitive, he entered music at the age of 10, when he learned accordion from his brother, but only started writing scores after the age of 41. Hermeto lived in Bangu, in the west of Rio. Between the end of July and mid-August, Hermeto, known as the ‘wizard’ of instrumental music, played a series of nine shows in Europe, across seven countries.
