Icon of instrumental music, Hermeto Pascoal, dies at 89

Self-taught and intuitive, he entered music at the age of 10, when he learned accordion from his brother, but only started writing scores after the age of 41. Hermeto lived in Bangu, in the west of Rio. Between the end of July and mid-August, Hermeto, known as the ‘wizard’ of instrumental music, played a series of nine shows in Europe, across seven countries.
