The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for very heavy rain in Mumbai on Wednesday, August 20, following persistent rainfall that led to flooding and disrupted daily life in the city. This comes after a series of downpours had already inundated the Maharashtra capital, causing chaos and bringing transportation to a standstill.
The severe weather conditions have resulted in challenging situations across Mumbai, with many areas experiencing waterlogging and inconvenience to residents. As a precautionary measure, the IMD has warned citizens to be prepared for adverse weather and advised against unnecessary travel, especially in flood-prone regions.
In the midst of the heavy rains, over 780 passengers were safely rescued from Monorail trains that got stuck due to the inclement weather. Local train services in Mumbai were also significantly impacted, leading to delays and cancellations, affecting the daily commute for thousands of passengers.
Furthermore, the Mumbai University has postponed exams scheduled for August 20 due to the weather conditions, ensuring the safety and well-being of students amid the unpredictable climate. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to mitigate the impact of the heavy rainfall on the city.
With the IMD issuing a red alert, residents are urged to stay informed about weather updates and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent any untoward incidents. The city continues to witness challenges brought by the monsoon season, highlighting the importance of preparedness and disaster management in the face of extreme weather events.
