The contraceptive implant Implanon is now offered as part of the mandatory coverage of health plans throughout Brazil today, following a decision by ANS (National Supplementary Health Agency).
The implant will be covered by plans only for individuals between the ages of 18 and 49 in pregnancy prevention, according to the agency. ‘This implant is much more effective than other methods to prevent unplanned pregnancy,’ said Health Minister Alexandre Padilha in July.
Currently, the contraceptive can cost between R$ 950 and R$ 4,000. If plans deny coverage requests for the implant, it is recommended to file a complaint directly with the plan operator. If there is no resolution, ANS should be contacted through official channels.
