Increase in Number of Individuals Affected by Cyclone Thivaa in Sri Lanka

Cyclone Thivaa, a severe storm that hit the island of Sri Lanka, has caused a major humanitarian crisis. Over 40,000 individuals have been affected, with more than 27,500 children among them, as reported by UNICEF. The cyclone has led to heavy rainfall, landslides, and widespread destruction of homes and essential infrastructure, resulting in children from displaced families being vulnerable to disease, malnutrition, unsafe environments, and other risks. This situation has worsened the poverty level and reintroduced Sri Lanka into a state of destitution.
