New Delhi and Indonesia are on the brink of signing a crucial agreement for BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, giving a significant push to the indigenous defense industry. Sources in the defense sector revealed to ANI that nearly all procedures for the deal have been completed, with only the Russian side’s approval pending to proceed with the contract. Discussions between India and Indonesia regarding the potential missile deal have been ongoing for an extended period. The topic was extensively deliberated during a high-level visit in January, where top Indonesian political and military leaders visited New Delhi.
India’s successful sale of BrahMos missiles to the Philippines has encouraged Indonesia to consider a similar purchase. The missiles’ performance during the recent India-Pakistan conflict in May further substantiated their effectiveness. Notably, India’s military leaders, including Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, recently visited Indonesia, underscoring the escalating defense cooperation between the two countries.
President Prabowo Subianto’s State visit to India in January also set the stage for enhanced military collaboration between India and Indonesia. India’s past deal with the Philippines, valued at around Rs 3,500 crore, included the delivery of BrahMos missiles and associated systems. The international community closely monitored this agreement as the Philippines fortified itself to safeguard its interests in the region. The expanding market for BrahMos missiles attests to the system’s reliability and effectiveness, reinforcing its status as a sought-after choice for strategic defense investments.
