India and Indonesia Strengthen Defence Industry Cooperation

India’s expertise in submarine development and supply-chain management, particularly in the Scorpene-class submarine program, has been acknowledged by Indonesia as crucial for its future defense strategies, the Defence Ministry announced. The recognition came as both countries agreed to deepen their defense industrial cooperation and advance initiatives to bolster regional security. The Scorpene-class submarines of the Indian Navy are manufactured domestically by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) through a technology transfer agreement with France’s Naval Group. Six submarines have already been commissioned between 2017 and 2023, with plans for three more to enhance India’s submarine production capabilities.
