Indian Cricketer Shreyas Iyer Progressing Well After Spleen Injury

Shreyas Iyer’s health remains delicate but stable after suffering a laceration to his spleen. The BCCI has confirmed that the team doctor is closely monitoring him, and the 30-year-old is recovering well, having been moved out of the ICU. Iyer sustained the injury during the third ODI against Australia at the SCG, resulting in his hospital admission and scans revealing the spleen injury.

The BCCI issued a statement updating on Iyer’s condition, stating that he is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The Indian Team Doctor is in Sydney to oversee his progress. Although Iyer is out of danger, sources mention he experienced internal bleeding due to the impact during the catch.

While in Sydney, Iyer is receiving medical attention, with Dr. Rizwan Khan staying by his side. Local friends are providing company, and arrangements are being made for a family member from Mumbai to join once visa formalities are completed. The family’s visa application process was delayed over the weekend.

Iyer’s return timeline is uncertain, with a focus on allowing him to fully recover before resuming play. The Indian vice-captain may remain in the hospital for a few more days to ensure his complete recuperation. His next potential series is against South Africa, and his availability will depend on his recovery progress.
