Rescuers in Indonesia’s Sumatra Island are encountering obstacles due to damaged infrastructure and heavy rain following flash floods and landslides, which have claimed the lives of at least 79 individuals. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency of Indonesia predicts that a tropical cyclone will continue to impact the region for several days. Monsoon rains led to rivers overflowing in North Sumatra province, resulting in the destruction of over 3,200 buildings and the displacement of around 3,000 families to government shelters.
