Indonesia has made history by introducing a biometric seamless corridor system at its airports, enabling passengers to breeze through immigration without any interruptions. This innovative technology, developed by Amadeus, marks a significant milestone in global travel. The initiative is part of the ‘All Indonesia’ program, aimed at simplifying immigration processes for international travelers. With two corridors already in place at Jakarta airport and plans for a third in Surabaya, the system prioritizes seniors and passengers with disabilities who can pre-register through the All Indonesia app.
Rudy Daniello, a senior official at Amadeus, highlighted how the integration of digital identity and biometrics at key airport points offers a truly seamless and secure travel experience. This approach eliminates the need for paperwork, queues, and physical barriers, setting a new standard for travel efficiency. Passengers are required to share passport details beforehand, undergo background checks prior to arrival, and authenticate their identity as they navigate the biometric corridor.
While the biometric seamless corridor is a novel concept on a larger scale, Indonesia has previously utilized similar technology to expedite pilgrim entry. Annually, around 220,000 individuals travel between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, benefiting from the swift and efficient corridor process. This system has successfully processed over 30 border crossings per minute and accommodated a total of 50,000 passengers, showcasing its effectiveness and potential for broader application.
