Indonesia Joins the Brics Bank with a $1 Billion Contribution

Indonesia has invested $1 billion (over R$5 billion) in the New Development Bank (NDB), also known as the Brics Bank, marking its first contribution since joining the financial institution. According to the Indonesian minister-coordinator for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, this initiative demonstrates the country’s role in strengthening cooperation among nations of the Global South. ‘Indonesia becomes a member and immediately starts actively participating in NDB activities,’ he pointed out. The minister added that membership in the bank will expand the country’s access to new markets and enhance cooperation with major emerging economies.
