JAKARTA — A devastating landslide occurred in Central Java, Indonesia, claiming the lives of 11 individuals, as reported by the country’s disaster management agency. Following heavy rains in the region, the disaster struck, leaving a dozen people still unaccounted for. Rescue teams have been deployed to search for the missing individuals and provide aid in the affected areas. The landslide occurred in Cilacap city, engulfing several houses in Cibeunying village, making the rescue operation particularly challenging due to the depth at which people were buried, ranging from 3 to 8 meters. The situation remains critical as the search continues. Indonesia’s disaster management agency spokesperson, Abdul Muhari, confirmed the grim toll, stating, ‘Eleven people have been found dead, three yesterday and eight more today. Twelve people are still missing.’ With the wet season in full swing in the Southeast Asian country, authorities are on high alert for further incidents of flooding and extreme weather. The risk is expected to continue until April, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and swift action in response to natural disasters.
