Indonesia Raises Alert for Mount Semeru Volcano to Highest Level After a Series of Eruptions

Mount Semeru in East Java province has raised alarm as it unleashed searing clouds of hot ash, rock, lava, and gas, traveling up to 7 kilometers down its slopes multiple times. Indonesia’s Geology Agency reported a thick column of hot clouds rising 2 kilometers into the air. Throughout the day, eruptions covered several villages with ash, prompting authorities to elevate the alert level to the highest. Over 300 residents were evacuated to government shelters, with a widened danger zone of 8 kilometers from the crater.
