Indonesia Rescuers Search for 23 Missing After Floods

Flash floods that struck a remote area of Indonesia have resulted in at least 23 individuals being reported missing, the national disaster management agency disclosed on November 4. The floods, triggered by heavy rainfall on November 1, impacted two separate areas of Nduga regency in Papua Pegunungan. According to the national agency’s spokesperson, Abdul Muhari, as of November 4, ’23 people are still declared missing by the local disaster agency,’ including 15 individuals who were swept away by a flash flood while trying to cross a river. As the search and rescue operations continue following the flash flood, Abdul mentioned that extensive landslides in the region have posed challenges to the operation.
