Indonesia Signs Defense Investments Pact with the United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates for Nearly 11 Billion

Indonesia has signed a 4 billion pound (4.5 billion euro) deal with the United Kingdom to enhance its Navy’s capabilities at the G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. Additionally, a strategic partnership worth 7 billion dollars (6.1 billion euros) with the United Arab Emirates has been secured to boost Indonesia’s military modernization across various sectors. The agreement with the UK includes developing Indonesia’s Navy and constructing about 1,000 ships for its fishing fleets. These vessels, built in Indonesia with British naval construction expertise, will create around 1,000 jobs in the UK. Babcock, a British defense firm, will play a key role in the UK-Indonesia agreement. Moreover, last week, Indonesia entered a strategic alliance with the UAE’s state defense conglomerate, Edge Group, to enhance its military modernization, technological capabilities, and industrial autonomy. This partnership, signed at the Dubai Airshow, involves an agreement between Edge Group and Republikorp, Indonesia’s premier defense holding company, covering a range of advanced systems such as Skynight air defense missiles, infantry combat vehicles, maritime missile-launching drones, cyber defense solutions, and small arms ammunition production capabilities. Together, these two deals represent an investment of nearly 10.6 billion euros from Indonesia to enhance and modernize its military capabilities.
