KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck the Minahassa Peninsula in Sulawesi, Indonesia, at 9.31am on Tuesday (Oct 28). The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) stated that the 10km-deep quake occurred 167km northwest of Gorontalo, Indonesia, without posing any tsunami threat to Malaysia. Prior to this event, a 5.3-magnitude earthquake had shaken North Sumatra at 7.35am. This earthquake, also at a depth of 10km, happened 88km north of Meulaboh, Indonesia, with no tsunami risk to Malaysia according to MetMalaysia reports.
