The Indonesian indoor hockey team has selected Rincon de la Victoria as their training base as part of their preparation for the Asian Indoor Hockey Championship, which will take place next December in Thailand. Over the next ten days, the Asian team will conduct their preparation at the ‘Rubén Zurrafa’ Municipal Indoor Pavilion in Torre de Benagalbón.
As part of a special program for this visit, an international men’s indoor hockey tournament will be held, featuring the Indonesian team against the current Andalusian champions, CD Málaga 91. Matches will be played in various locations, including Moclinejo, Málaga, or Rincon de la Victoria, where the main match will take place on November 2nd. During these ten days, the Indonesian team will also hold daily training sessions and joint practices with players from the Municipal Hockey School and CD Málaga 91.
Antonio José Martín, Sports Councilor of Rincon de la Victoria, stated, “The opportunity for Rincon de la Victoria to host international elite athletes reinforces our image as a leading sports destination.” He also emphasized that “this is not only about technical and sports value but also a very enriching cultural and human exchange for our local young athletes.”
The mayor of the municipality, Francisco Salado, pointed out that for Rincon de la Victoria, “it is an honor to host a national team and become an international reference in a rapidly growing sport like indoor hockey.” He highlighted the efforts from the Sports Department to attract high-level events and training camps, “which boost the local economy, promote visibility for the municipality, and encourage sports practice among our residents.”
Juan Manuel Requena, Vice President and coach of CD Málaga 91, explained that the choice of Rincon de la Victoria “reflects the high level of hockey we have here, the quality of our facilities, the Municipal School, and clubs like ours, which have established a solid and competitive structure.” Outside the courts, the Indonesia team is also taking advantage of their stay to explore the tourist and cultural attractions of the municipality. According to the Sports Councilor, the players “are enjoying our excellent climate, cuisine, and the hospitality of the locals, visiting various points of interest in the town.”
