Indonesian Zoo Welcomes First-Ever Panda Cub Born in the Country

A zoo in Java, Indonesia, unveiled pictures of the country’s first giant panda cub, named Rio, born locally for the first time. The male cub, born to the 15-year-old mother Hu Chun on November 27 at the zoo in Cisarua, West Java province, is reportedly healthy. The naming of the cub as Satrio Wiratama, or Rio, signifies the collaborative conservation efforts of Indonesia and China. This milestone is a result of a decade-long partnership since Hu Chun and Cai Tao arrived in Indonesia in 2017. The cub is currently under close observation, showing promising signs of vocalization, nursing, and weight gain.
