Following the eruption of Mount Semeru, one of Indonesia’s tallest peaks, more than 900 residents have been evacuated. Additionally, the 170 climbers who were stranded in the area after the volcano erupted were safely guided back on Thursday. Officials are keeping the alert at its highest level following the eruption of the Java island volcano that sent ash columns into the sky and caused lava and rocks to surge up to 13 km down its slopes.
