IPO Attracts Hidden Corporate Gems with 185 Applications

In recent years, a significant number of companies have been bringing their shares to the stock market for self-investors. This trend has continued in the current year as well. According to a news report, by September of the current year, the boards of 185 companies have submitted draft red herring prospectuses (DRHP) to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for launching Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), with plans to raise around 2.72 lakh crore rupees from the market.

The report claims that there has never been such a high number of companies applying for IPOs in a January to September period since 1996. In the period from January to September of 1996, the promoters of 428 companies had applied to SEBI for launching IPOs.

Following that, in the first nine months of 2023 and 2024, the promoters of 58 and 107 companies respectively had applied to SEBI for IPOs. However, the number of applications for IPOs in the current year has reached 185.

According to a news report, in the upcoming weeks, several companies, including Physicala, Teneko Clean Air India, are preparing to launch their IPOs in the stock market. These companies are collectively aiming to raise over 10,000 crore rupees from the market. Among these companies is the SME IPO of Menboard and various companies from the small and medium industries sector.

Experts have revealed that there is a broad demand in the market for IPOs in the current year. In the first two weeks of October, seven major companies have launched their IPOs, including Tata Capital, Work India Management, Canada Robeco AMC, LG Electronics India, and Canada HSBC Life Insurance. These companies raised over 35,000 crore rupees in the first two weeks of last month.
