ISU explained the admission of Russians to the selection for the 2026 Olympics

The ISU explained the admission of Russian athletes to Olympic qualifying tournaments in figure skating, speed skating, and short track. “We did not want to discriminate against athletes based on passports, as long as they remain independent and neutral. Our current policy is to allow neutral athletes to participate in the Olympic qualifying tournament so that they can compete on an equal footing,” said the ISU President. The decision came after Russia was banned from using its name, flag, and anthem at major sporting events, including the Olympics.
