The Brazilian Foreign Ministry responded to a new post by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, in which Marco Rubio’s second-in-command stated that the relationship between the two countries is at a ‘dead end.’ ‘This statement represents a new frontal attack on Brazilian sovereignty and a democracy that recently defeated an attempted coup and will not bow to pressure, no matter where it comes from,’ declared Itamaraty on Saturday night. Without naming Supreme Federal Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes, Landau earlier took a dig at ‘other Powers’ claiming to be ‘powerless to react’ in the face of a magistrate who ‘usurped dictatorial power.’ The post, originally in English, was reposted by the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia, translated into Portuguese.
