Jane Goodall’s Light Still Guides the World

On October 1st, United Nations Messenger of Peace and founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, Jane Goodall, passed away while on a speaking tour in California at the age of 91 due to natural causes. Her life changed the way the world understands the relationship between animals and humans, making environmental protection a social action outside the confines of temples and ivory towers.
In the minds of the public, ecological protection is often packaged as romantic adventures, touching ‘victorious moments’. From Jane Goodall, we tend to focus more on her ‘legendary’ experiences. However, real nature conservation is full of risks, hardships, countless tug-of-wars, and repeated processes: the objects and habitats being protected may continue to degrade, the individuals being rescued may still leave after repeated rescue attempts; monitoring curves do not always trend upward, and public opinion is not always understanding.
