Jay Idzes Acknowledges Indonesian Food as the Best in the World

Sassuolo defender Jay Idzes has mentioned that his favorite foods are fried rice and chicken satay. The Indonesian national team player also acknowledged Indonesian cuisine as the best in the world. After Venezia, Sassuolo became the second Italian club that Idzes played for. Despite his career in Italy since 2023, this Indonesian-Dutch player never forgets his roots. In a recent interview with Sassuolo, Idzes revealed that Indonesian cuisine is his favorite. The Indonesian national team captain enjoys eating Indonesian dishes due to the influence of his grandmother from Semarang. “I really love Indonesian cuisine. In my opinion, it may be the best food in the world. Italian food comes in second place, very close,” Idzes said in an interview posted on Sassuolo’s Instagram account on Sunday, November 16, 2025. “My favorite Indonesian dishes are definitely fried rice, a dish made of rice with various vegetables and ingredients mixed in, or chicken satay which is skewered chicken with peanut sauce, usually served as a condiment. Then there’s gado-gado, which is like an Indonesian salad,” he added. “All these dishes, when served together, are my favorite foods. I owe it all to my grandmother, who loves cooking, although she doesn’t do it as often nowadays. She really enjoyed cooking.” “I used to spend a lot of time with my grandmother when I was young, almost every day, and we always ate the meals she prepared for us. So my love for Indonesian food comes from there,” Idzes disclosed. Jay Idzes has Indonesian heritage from his mother’s side. His grandparents were born in Jakarta and Semarang. They lived in Indonesia for 20 years before moving to the Netherlands.
