The second edition of the Kashmir Marathon 2025 transformed Srinagar into a dynamic arena of unity and endurance. More than 1,500 runners from India and abroad took part in the event, which started at the Polo View market of Srinagar. The Department of Tourism, Kashmir, and the J&K Sports Council collaborated to organize the marathon, attracting athletes from 27 states and 11 countries, including Germany, Denmark, the USA, Ethiopia, Kenya, Japan, and Sri Lanka.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah participated in the marathon, completing the half-marathon around Dal Lake. He shared his experience on social media, stating, “Just completed the Kashmir Half Marathon. Congratulations to all runners.” The Chief Minister, together with senior civil and police officers, flagged off the race at 6 am, with Bollywood celebrities and local spectators cheering on the participants along Boulevard Road. Actor Suniel Shetty, who attended the event, highlighted the spirit and turnout of the marathon, calling it a symbol of unity and peace.
Shetty praised the participants’ dedication, saying, “What a beautiful morning this is… just look at the spirit of people running for Kashmir, for India. It’s truly wonderful.” He commended the Chief Minister for his inspiring participation and leadership qualities, emphasizing the importance of promoting fitness and unity through such events. The actor expressed hope for more sporting and cultural events in Kashmir, envisioning a bright future for the region as a key destination for athletes.
The marathon offered a prize pool of Rs. 25 lakh and featured full (42 km) and half (21 km) marathon categories. Runners were captivated by the scenic route around Dal Lake and the Zabarwan Range, making it one of the most picturesque marathons in the country. With participants from diverse backgrounds coming together to celebrate sports and unity, the Kashmir Marathon 2025 truly showcased the endurance and spirit of Srinagar.
