Kemenhut On Alert for Illegal Hunting of Javan and Sumatran Rhinos Amid Population Crisis

The conservation of rhinos in Indonesia is facing significant challenges due to the ‘critically endangered’ status of the remaining two rhino species, Sumatran Rhinos and Javan Rhinos, with a total population of fewer than 200 individuals. The director-general of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (Kemenhut), Wiratno, highlighted the urgency of protecting these endangered species from illegal hunting and other threats to prevent further population decline.
