Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made headlines by signing Australian cricketer and former all-rounder, Shane Watson, as their assistant coach under the leadership of Abhisek Nayar for the upcoming IPL season. Watson, who previously played for Delhi Capitals, brings his experience to help prepare the team alongside head coach Nayar.
Having taken a break from playing in the IPL, Watson has tasted the glory of winning the trophy. His coaching abilities have also been noticed post his playing career. Before joining KKR, Watson was part of the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. He has been a key member of winning One Day World Cup teams in 2007 and 2015, playing a total of 145 IPL matches with four centuries to his name.
Expressing his enthusiasm after joining KKR, Watson said, ‘I am keen to work together with the coaching staff and players to help Kolkata achieve another title.’ KKR’s CEO Venky Mysore expressed excitement in having the talented Watson on board, stating, ‘We are thrilled to welcome Shane Watson to Kolkata Knight Riders family. His experience as a player and coach will greatly benefit our team culture and preparation.’
