Landslides and Flash Floods Leave Death Toll in Indonesia’s Sumatra Island

Rescue workers have recovered at least five bodies and three injured individuals in Sibolga, the worst-hit city, with four villagers still missing. In Central Tapanuli, landslides killed a family of four and submerged around 2,000 homes. Additionally, seven bodies were found in South Tapanuli, where over 2,800 residents evacuated due to floods and landslides. North Tapanuli saw landslides impacting 50 houses and destroying two main bridges. Mandailing Natal and Padang Sidempuan experienced bridge closures and house submersions, while mud blocked a main road on Nias Island.
