A volcano in northern Ethiopia, the Hayli Gubbi Mountain, erupted after 12,000 years of dormancy on Sunday morning (11/23/2025). The eruption sent ash clouds as far as Yemen and Oman, covering the nearby village of Afdera with ash. The area around the Hayli Gubbi Mountain is known for seismic activity. According to resident Ahmed Abdela, the eruption felt like a bomb exploding, accompanied by smoke and ash, resembling a sudden explosion. The eruption has resulted in several tourist sites being closed as many worry about the economic impact following the event.
