Lizzy Gunsalus Continues Winning Streak at Major Taylor Cross Cup; Tofik Beshir Wins First UCI-Level Race

Lizzy Gunsalus from Marian University dominated the Major Taylor Cross Cup in Indianapolis, Indiana, securing victories in both women’s events and extending her winning streak to four consecutive UCI races. Meanwhile, Tofik Beshir of CDX Trek Bikes, a young talent from Ethiopia residing in the US, clinched his first UCI victory at the elite level by claiming two podium finishes in the men’s events.

With just three seasons of cyclocross experience under his belt, Beshir impressed by finishing second on the opening day and then securing the top spot on the podium with a sprint finish on the following day. Gunsalus showcased her skills by outdueling veteran Caroline Mani in both races, expressing her joy at winning the UCI race on her university’s home turf.

In other cycling news, the Unbound Gravel lottery for the 2026 edition opens on November 1, offering participants a chance to secure a spot in one of the five distances. The lottery winners, selected randomly by event organizers Life Time, will be notified via email on November 21. Additionally, the Pan-Am Cyclocross Championships in Washington DC are set to proceed as scheduled despite initial uncertainty due to the US government shutdown.

The ongoing shutdown had raised concerns about the race’s venue at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, but organizers confirmed that the events would proceed as planned. The location, situated on US Federal Government property, faced challenges due to the shutdown, but after negotiations with administrators, the races were given the green light.

The Pan-Ams, making their debut in DC this year, will host a UCI Team Relay Continental Championship event in 2025. Registrations for the races are open until November 5, offering participants the chance to compete in this prestigious event.
