Lula criticizes WTO and praises peace efforts between US and Russia at Brics meeting

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) used the virtual Brics meeting to launch a scathing criticism of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and highlight the importance of multilateralism in times of growing global tension. During the meeting, Lula stated that the normalization of ‘tariff blackmail’ by the Trump administration and the WTO is damaging international trade. He also praised the efforts for peace between the United States and Russia, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and cooperation between nations. Lula’s remarks come at a time when trade relations between major world powers are strained due to tariffs and disputes over trade practices.
