President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) might announce on Monday (10/20) the appointment of federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (Psol-SP) as a State minister and the nomination of the Attorney General of the Union (AGU), Jorge Messias, as a Supreme Court minister. The announcements are expected to be made before Lula embarks for Asia on Tuesday (21), where he will stay until next week. Messias’s choice for the Supreme Court is considered certain. He is the top candidate to fill the vacancy left by Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, who retired early on Saturday (18). Also considered were Senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) and Minister of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) Bruno Dantas. Change in the Esplanade Boulos is expected to replace Minister Márcio Macêdo from the Presidency’s Secretariat. The department is mainly responsible for coordinating the Presidency with social movements. The federal deputy has been considered for the position since the beginning of the year. However, the exchange has not occurred yet. The switch is expected to be discussed in a meeting between Lula and Macêdo scheduled for 6:00 pm today, and announced after the conversation. Lula will travel to Indonesia on Tuesday (21). He will then proceed to Malaysia, where he will make a state visit and attend the ASEAN Summit. He will only return to Brazil next week. Therefore, the expectation in the Planalto Palace is for him to formalize the appointments before leaving.
