On Thursday, the 18th, law 15,211/25 was published, which protects children and adolescents in digital environments, combats ‘adultification,’ and creates the Digital Statute of Children and Adolescents. The law imposes several obligations on digital service providers, including ensuring that children and adolescent’s social media accounts are linked to a guardian and removing abusive content for this audience. President Lula stated, ‘They can’t continue to be used to spread fake news and hate speech. They can’t provide a platform for crimes such as financial scams, sexual exploitation of children and adolescents, racism, and violence against women. It’s a mistake to believe that big tech companies will take the initiative to self-regulate. This mistake has already cost the lives of several children and adolescents,’ during the sanctioning event.
