Nicolás Maduro said he is ready to declare a state of emergency in Venezuela to protect the country from the Americans. In a televised speech on Monday (29), the Venezuelan leader stated that the measure aims to ‘protect the people, peace, and stability’. This statement comes after weeks of tension with the United States, who deployed warships to the Caribbean Sea in a mission Washington claims is meant to combat drug trafficking. Donald Trump has even accused Maduro of direct involvement with organized crime in the region. This week, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez stated that the country would grant special powers to Maduro in case of a US military incursion.
